Singer/lyricist Charlize started training classically, at the age of four, at ‘Sylvia Young Theatre School’. By exploring different genres from musical theatre, to pop, jazz and gospel, Charlize was inspired to pursue her love for music. In writing her lyrics, the artist is largely influenced by the likes of legends such as Etta James, Ella Fitzgerald, Amy Winehouse and Elton John.
In 2014, Charlize debuted her vocal talent at The Duke of Essex Polo supporting Indie artist Tiger Lilly. She subsequently performed in ‘GospelEyed’ where she covered well loved gospel songs such as ‘Lean on Me’ and’ This Little Light of Mine’ followed along with her most recent live shows at the ‘Capeesh SkyBar’ in Pan Peninsula Square, Isle of Dogs, where she was invited as a guest performer on several occasions.
Charlize describes her music as “thought provoking and wonderful”. Writing from the heart she continues, “I write about things that bother me, I write about whatever comes to mind whether its dark and deep or funny or rude or sad or heartbreaking or happy-go-lucky. Whatever it is I write it down, then I pick what is appropriate for the outside world to hear and what music is just for me as some of the lyrics I write are extremely personal. I make music for myself, to help me feel better when I feel down and to help me self-express in a way I know how that is also creative. I also make music for others because I want them to hear what I say and feel safe and connected. I make music in the hope of inspiring people to do what they love and do it well without worrying if anyone will judge them. I want people to feel like anything is possible when they listen to my music, I want to inspire people to go out and change the world and help others so we can all live in a better place. I truly believe music saves lives because it saved mine.”
“Singing is one of my favourite things to do in the whole world and I would never give it up”
